The thought of cold, dreary weather and shorter sunlight hours doesn’t excite me in the slightest. The food and clothing ramifications of Winter, however, most certainly do.
Pumpkin soup. Guilt-free hot chocolate. Guilt-free anything warm for the purpose of increasing body temperature. And, the chance to revamp ze ol’ wardrobe for another season. This Winter, I’ll be starting with two essentials: the contrast sleeve jacket and, of course, the eternal staple: boots.
1. The Contrast Sleeve Jacket
Instant chic. Instant swag. Those are the pay-offs of the Contrast Sleeve Jacket. My eyes were opened to the contrast sleeve last Winter in the form of a khaki Bardot trench with contrast leather sleeves similar to the Burberry one below. I wore it to absolute death and plan to do so this Winter too. My love for this trend refuses to die.
I think the sneaky little trick that contrast sleeves play is the illusion of accessorising. Sounds crazy, but the addition of a different fabric or print is an instant accessory. On those nippy Winter days when putting effort into getting out of your warm PJs is a struggle, the CSJ is your solution. Plain tee (long-sleeved tee for those of you live in the cooler climates), whatever jeans are on the top of the pile and your trusty CSJ is all you need.
Even on a work-day, the CSJ can save the day as Jennifer Hawkins proves below. Over a plain black business dress or black camisole and pencil skirt, the CSJ turns drab into divine.

2. Big Booty Bitches
Yep. We want ‘em. Big Booty Bitches. Boots are a must have every Winter. My feet are eternally cold. Even in Summer. Naturally, the extreme temp drops in Winter result in what feels like frostbite for me. My only solace: BOOTS. Morning, noon and night.
This Winter for me is all about the Sports Luxe trend.
Many class the wedge sneaker in the wedge family (duh) but I am a firm believer that they are spawned from the fruits of boots. These not only have the benefit of sock-wearage and warmth, but also height-without-appearing-to-be-giving-height. Leg elongation is always a plus in my books. And so easily warn with either stocking or jeans.

…but twice.

And of course, a dress boot is necessary for those occasions where a little class is required. The Sports Luxe trend delivers even in this category this season. These Wittner beauties are my #1 shopping list item this week. Ankle-hugging, neutrally coloured with a stiletto heel is most flattering and easy to wear with a variety of clothing combinations (in my opinion). Dress, skirt, high-waisted shorts, with or without stockings. Skintight jeans. So much versatility. Must. Have.
