Product Review: Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray

Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray
For a long time my hair was long, straight and had no layers, and weeks ago I purchased the Toni & Guy Sea Salt Texturising Spray. Yes, this was due to the TV ad – being in marketing I should know better, but I was sold by the chick in the image below, twisting her hair around her fingers, using the spray and a blow dryer, and achieving those incredible beach waves.

By the way: totally untrue. I used it, twisted twirled and blow dried and it had absolutely no hold – normal hairspray would probably be a more appropriate choice. My hair isn’t exactly an indicator for how everyone’s would perform, as it won’t hold a curl on the best of days. Either way, the product doesn’t have hold, and the word ‘texturising’ should be taken seriously. I think this is its’ key purpose. Let’s be real, we’re 99.99% sure the above ‘beach waves’ were created by a curling tong and about 798 different products. I knew this all along, and spent the $17.99 anyway.
Two days ago, I had layers cut. I’m completely happy with them, and an added plus is that my hair is no longer completely straight, and now has a bit of a flick when I don’t blow dry it straight.
With this in mind, I gave the Toni & Guy another go. I washed and dried off my hair as usual with no added styling. Then (when dry), I gave it a few sprays of the Toni & Guy. Not bad – gives that piecey salty look. Note that it’s unbrushed too.
Toni&GuySpray
In conclusion: nice texture, smells great (authentic ‘I just came home from the beach’ feel) – doesn’t really alter the way your hair waves or curls (I imagine it might if a hot roller/hot iron was involved), but provides a nice feel. Not a bad product.
